We’ve all been so sad here in the Sunshine about the loss of our beloved Oboe, that it’s time to rally the troops for a little happiness and cheer as we celebrate his life instead of focusing on our continuous sadness over the loss of our friend. The hubby, who knows I’ve been troubled by my last visual sight of my pup saying his last goodnight, gave me a precious gift yesterday. I came home to a beautiful DVD of photos of our life with Obie, set to the perfect Patty Loveless song, How Can I Help You to Say Goodbye?
It was truly one of the best and most thoughtful gifts I’ve ever been given – a method by which to wash away that bad picture in my mind’s eye and replace it with 11 years of happiness and joy. I can’t post the file here in the Sunshine, but the hubby asked that I at least post this one particular photo of Oboe, when he was happiest, basking in the Sunshine of a beautiful day.

Rumor confirmed by Tom (AKA Hubby):
Oboe was a Steeler fan???
So is God!
(just look at the total wins column after decades of Superbowl prayer—-God LOVES the Steelers).
This is beginning to make sense why Oboe went to heaven.
Tom, I hope you never lose hearing ability. If so, you will need American Sign Language. ASL is derived from American Indians and is beautiful to watch.
Our Indians were pretty direct in their communications. I recall reading of their belief that there is a blade over each of our hearts.
In our grief, the blade lowers and cuts the heart, and moves an increment. It hurts with the cut.
Love lifts the blade.
The cutting goes on in grief; restored by love.
There is no more hurt when there is no more heart.
The heart is cut out unless the blade is lifted with love. I hope there is always a little hurt for Oboe,….and a lot of heart too.
Barbara Streisand sang:
“People who need people are the luckiest people in the world”.
Streisand, of course, ……never met Oboe!
Then she would sing a different tune on who is luckiest.
Your lament here is wise.
Grief that is shared is cut in half.
Joy that is shared is doubled.
We carry your grief in prayer.
Let us double the Joy one day soon.
Ps. Nice Sunshine photo of Oboe Fabrizio…..
(repeat that in A cappella over and over)
Anonymous is a Latin word meaning too dumb to sign your name first. Ooops.
Dominos Vobiscum!
I love the pic. I think you are taking a great approach to the whole thing. These things really bring family together.
To Danny Lucas,
Of all your eloquent and poignant posts, your last post was my favorite!
To Kim,
How nice to see the Sunshine after the rain. Great picture, great idea, great post!
Dear Gayle,
You have crafted the magic elixir that extends the Thanksgiving Holiday well into December…..
for I find I am thankful this day, for your kind words.
And, you have promoted the Christmas Season to begin early, by giving me the gift of your thoughts!
I suspect Neil Sedaka had YOU in mind when he sang “I love, I love, I love, I love, My Calendar Girl, every day….every day…of the year”.
Best regards,
Danny Lucas
